American March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation Training
From 1978 to 1982, sponsored by the American March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation, the Dispensary conducted some twenty intensive
three-week training sessions for health professionals: physicians, nurses, mid-wives and dietitians. A total of 115 American health professionals
benefited from this "Higgins Method"© training.
Since then, this training in prenatal nutrition is pursued in the United States via the National Maternel Nutrition Intensive Course to which the MDD closely collaborates.
Judith Brown, emeritus professor, Minnesota University
"The first week, we found the Dispensary's approach rather unconventional and. for all Agnes C. Higgins' impassioned presentation, we were not convinced.
By the second week, lectures by well-known authorities in the field, articles in specialized publications, house calls and simply watching the dietitians
at work had begun to shake our first opinion. Come the third week, everything had changed, we had understood. Suddenly the sky lit up, like a flash of
lightening. The program really worked!"
Jean-Marie Moutquin, obstetrician-gynecologist, Faculté de médecine et des sciences de la santé, Université de Sherbrooke "Aggie kept
us on the run from eight in the morning to six in the evening, sometimes longer. The course has had an indelible influence on my obstetrical
practice and my scientific career."
